QUAINT FACT

Denim jeans and Irish coffee have their origins in San Francisco. Vermont Street, between 20th and 22nd is where you really want to go for a curvy drive. And for a really steep hill, try Filbert – look for the section between Hyde and Leavenworth.

You may have noticed that there are two main cables which pass over the top of the iconic towers of the Golden Gate Bridge. These cable wires took just over six months to spin and the total length of the steel wire used in making those cables – 80,000 miles! That’s the length of the playing surface of 1,408,000 American football fields! If that distance is too much, you might like to know that Yosemite National Park is only 164 miles away. It’s close enough for a weekend or day trip; however, it will take approximately 3 hours to get there, so leave early!

WEATHER & CLIMATE If you remember one thing, it’s the term micro climate. This wonderful city is full of contradictions and the climate here is as varied as the weather from day to day. For up-to-the-minute info at your fingertips, download a San Francisco micro-climate app and always have a jacket with you. If you are new to the San Francisco, remember, months that are traditionally considered “summer” are generally cold; with temperatures of 50-70 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmest months of the year are September and October.

LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO This is a wonderful city if you like to walk, enjoy food and love adventure. There is always something to do and plenty of places you can go to bypass the tourists. While very pricey, ever-growing and a challenge when it comes to parking, this is a magnificent place to live – at least for a few years. The demographic of San Francisco has changed dramatically, and for many, raising a family here is not the option it used to be. If you have deep pockets you can live comfortably – if not, the trade-offs you make in order to live here, will likely to be worth the amazing experience you have while here. Depending on your resources there are single-family homes and luxury condos to buy, or apartments and rooms to rent. Always consider your car and the reality of parking before making the final decision on where to live. That said if you are renting, act fast. If you take a minute to consider inking a lease, it will likely disappear out from under you. If you are looking to buy, you need to be prepared as well. It is a very hot market!
