Planning a Move in San Francisco – Best Moving Tip

If you only use one tip from our blog, please make it THIS one! It’s called the “last on – first off” or “open first” box. We will go into more specific detail in a future post, for now, however, this should get you started. Consider the first things you’ll need when you arrive at your new home. This box is your “go to” box for all those things you need to make the first hours in your new home, great ones!

“Last On–First Off” or “Open First” Box if Planning a Move

Make sure to include things like:

planning_a_move_best_moving_tipBills/checks/stamps/blank envelopes, pen, paper, wide marker, scotch tape, stapler, string, variety of sizes: black binder clips and safety pins, plastic utensils, cups, paper plates (compact picnic basket), cutting board, small pot and lid, can opener, for stove, sharp kitchen knife, cork screw, bottle opener, coffee pot or tea kettle, coffee filter (carry a bag of ground coffee with you… it’s not advisable to put food items on the truck, because anything with moisture could get toasty in transit… moisture re food + heat = not a good combo), prescriptions, first aid kit, toothpaste, tooth brush, eye care products, q-tips, headache medicine and antacid (in case the move is stressful), special toys for your kids, extra chargers for your devices, travel size kitchen soap (packed in multiple plastic bags), paper towels, rags, small bucket, two rolls of toilet paper, cheap shower curtain liner, shower soap, bath towels, towel or rug for bathroom floor (post shower), air mattress, bed linens, blanket, pillow, pillow case, change of clothes (or two) suitable to your new climate, sweatshirt (especially if it’s Summer in San Francisco!), pajamas to keep you warm if it’s cool where you are going, extra “work clothes” (especially if you are going to be unpacking the truck on a hot day), extra socks and undies, umbrella, fan, plastic bags (ziploc and trash), knife/box-cutter, duct tape, scissors, hammer, screws, nails, zip ties in all sizes, rope, screw driver (both kinds), wrench, full tool kit, cordless drill, clip lamp (or two), light bulbs, flashlight, power strip (or two) …To name a few!

Note: Matches are always great to have on hand; however, those should never go on the truck. Sorry, no combustible materials allowed on the truck.
