One of the busiest days of your life is just around the corner! What can you do to make your move to Hillsborough go smoothly?
Do your best to complete all of the tasks below prior to move day so that you’ll be home when the Cummings Moving Company starts the loading process. It is always advisable for you, as the homeowner or renter to be there on Move Day. If you cannot, please inform our office ahead of time and make sure to designate a trusted friend or family member to be there as your proxy in case our moving crew or driver has questions.
Create a clearly marked area where you can set aside the items that you DON’T want loaded on the truck. And another area for things you want to make sure are loaded last – last on, first off! This will remind you to tell us what items should not be loaded as we conduct your pre-load walk through.
Keep all important your move-related paperwork handy! In a recent Moving Checklist post, we talked about the importance of having a Moving Binder. Last thing you need is to have that “one paper you need” end up packed and loaded with your household goods!
Think of the kids! Pack a “Last On – First Off” box with special items just for them. Perhaps there is a new toy or favorite stuffed animal there to greet them when the truck rolls up and that first box comes off. Perhaps your Last On – First Off box has a list of the best pizza delivery places or GF/DF-friendly restaurants in your new Hillsborough neighborhood. Do the legwork NOW rather than having to search it out on your phone later. Speaking of the kids, try to make arrangements to have someone watch the kids and pets (if any) while the movers are packing and loading your belongings. This will be one less thing for you to worry about and it makes ALL the difference!
Remember yourself too! What will YOU need or want to have in that first box off the truck? Scissors, knife, pad of paper, the coffee pot, extra phone charger, light bulbs, toilet paper, extension cord, a small bucket and some rags, a hammer and screwdriver, an umbrella… You get the idea!

Clear the Walkways for Easy Access
Do your best to remove all obstructions so that it’s safe and easy for the Cummings expert movers to get in and out of your house:
- All door and floor mats should be removed.
- The crew will have a specially designed floor covering that does not slip so remove all rugs.
- Potted plants and planters should be moved away from the front porch, walkways and driveways.
- Move low-hanging items such as wind chimes or hanging plants.
- Make the loading process easy by disconnecting the spring on the screen door if you have one.
Inform Cummings’ Movers of Special Items
As soon as your moving crew arrives, you are welcome to point out any items that are of great importance to you. It is our job to handle ALL your belongings professionally and with care, however, our crews will place EXTRA attention on moving your priority items. In addition, before the truck is loaded, let your movers know if you want certain groups of boxes unloaded first – children’s toys, kitchen and bathroom items, etc. If you’re not sure what is best, please ask. Before the Moving Truck Heads Out to Hillsborough
