What are your kitchen cleaning secrets?

Cleaning the kitchen doesn’t have to be a grimy and stinky mess of a task. In this blog post, we identify four cleaning tips for keeping your kitchen bright, sparkly and smelling fantastic all week long.

1. Clean up your mess when you make it: This is one of the most important cleaning tips for keeping a kitchen shining like new. We realize that a kitchen is a work space, but cleaning up after each task will eliminate the possibility of waste build up throughout the week. Don’t let trash, dishes or a food compost pile up in this space. The accumulation of items will make cleaning more time consuming than necessary.

2. Use familiar household items to cut through grime: Baking soda and vinegar are two super powerful substances for cleaning a kitchen. Baking soda has a fantastic texture for scouring and scrubbing off deep stains and making stainless steel shine like new. Baking soda is also used commonly to keep sour smells under control. Try adding some dry baking soda to your trash; you’ll be able to smell the difference. We see vinegar used in an abundance of cleaning applications and for good reason. Try mixing one cup of vinegar and three cups of water to clean your windows, shine your floors or disinfect your counters.

3. Salt, salt and more salt: Did you know that salt has incredible absorption properties? Salt can be used to soak up messy spills and can be used as a scouring agent for caked on messes. This is one of the great cleaning tips for working with stove tops messes. Try using an old tooth brush to reach small spaces with a salt mixture, or toss salt onto mini-spills on the floor of your oven to keep that “burned smell” from ruining your dish as it continues to cook.

4. Lemons and fresh scent: The scent of lemons, is one of the freshest scents around, and for that reason it is very popular in the kitchen. Did you know that adding the rinds of a few lemons into your garbage disposal will help eliminate the smell of past meals in your sink? You can also microwave a small bowl of water and lemon slices to freshen up a splattered microwave. Try adding lemons to the baking soda or vinegar mixtures for the added smell of freshness.

We love the idea of using natural ingredients like lemons to clean the kitchen and we hope you do too! Try these tips for a cleaner, fresher and more enjoyable space. Happy cleaning!
